  1. Financial Assistance for Broadband Subscriptions

The Town of Bremen provides a $30 a month subsidy for Tidewater Telecom broadband subscriptions for residents in financial need, essentially providing free broadband Internet.  To find out whether you qualify, check with the Town Office at (207) 529-5945 or Bremen@tidewater.net or directly with the National Digital Equity Center at (207) 259-5010 or makeadifference@digitalequitycenter.org.

  1. Free public “Hot Spot” available

Tidewater Telecom provides two free public Wi-Fi “Hot Spots.” One is at the Fire Station on Route 32 and the other is at the Town Office on Route 32.  In order not to interfere with fire operations, it is mandatory that residents accessing the “Fire Station Hot Spot” park on the south side of the fire station in the gravel parking lot.  No password is needed to access these services.

  1. Internet for All

The Broadband Committee supports the adoption of an Internet for All proposal, under which Bremen would treat access to the Internet as an essential public service, like roads and schools.  Access to adequate broadband Internet is so integrated in modern living that individuals without availability face a significant disadvantage in obtaining employment, healthcare, essential resources, and education.

Broadband Internet connectivity is essential not only because of the benefits to its users, but also because of the substantial benefits to the community at large.

Under the Internet for All proposal, the Town would pay for a basic level of broadband service for all residents. Subscribers would receive enhanced services at home, such as health care, education, job training, business opportunities, library services, and aging in place. This also will help Bremen attract new families and new businesses.

In 2026, the Broadband Committee will be assessing community support for Internet for All and will be considering alternatives to move current DSL subscribers to broadband, including satellite broadband.  The Committee also will be exploring federal, state, county, & private funding sources to assist the Town in realizing Internet for All.
